Host a book drive or fundraiser for Chicago Books to Women in Prison. We can help you get ready and organized. We can supply a timeline for planning an event, a flier explaining how CBWP works, tips for promoting the event, tips for requesting donations, a sample letter for asking for donations, and a log for keeping track of donations. If you’re interested in this, just email us at cbwp4001(at)gmail(dot)com

Other ways you can get involved with the project:

  • Volunteer: Help us open letters, match up requests, package books, organize book drives and fundraisers, and get the word out about the need for reform. Join us a few hours a month or a few hours a year…every little bit helps.
  • Donate books: We are always in need of dictionaries and blank journals. In addition, we often receive requests for books about daily meditation, recovery from addiction, learning Spanish, spirituality, HIV/AIDS/Hepatitis, and urban fiction. We also need educational and GED books  — especially math workbooks and books on US history at the junior high school or high school level However, we get requests for many other genres and are happy to accept donations of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, etc. Our one restriction is that we can only accept paperback books.
  • Contribute: A tax-deductible donation of $10 will send 4 packages of books to women in prison. We are proud to have Beyondmedia Education as our fiscal agent.
